Our guides are from the region which means that you will be learning the real stories behind each animal and aspect of the trip as many of the locations have a unique history which leads to having a specific type of animals living in the area or even an old temple in place.
We started going on Safari Trips in the early 2000’s during the civil war, and it was our only escape to enjoy nature and connect with our surrounding. During the old days we used to be the only Jeep going to the jungle, and nowadays with more and more Jeeps in the area, we offer our clients routes that are off the beaten track. Combining wild animal spotting, exploring natural caves and other cultural spots within the same trip as we like to get our guests educated and familiarized with the area.
Safari trips are half day trips, the morning session start from 6 AM until 12 PM midday, and the evening session leaves around 1:30 PM until the sunset which is approximately 7 PM in Arugam Bay.
We can cater shorter and easier Safari trips that don’t fall under the national park using paths that we discovered during our childhood. Short treks that are not available within the national parks can also be a part of the trip, offering you our routes that go through the daily lives of the local people living around these animals and understanding how they co-exist together.
CROCODILES
ELEPHANTS
DEERS
BLACK BEARS
LEOPARDS
Traveling birds and unique Sri Lankan birds are one of the main attractions of Kumana National Park (Yala East) due to the migration through the lagoons. There are around 5 to 6 lagoons within the national park routes we use.
Morning trips start with watching the sunrise over the top of the hills, rocks, and trees while we are in the right geographical location. Then locate the areas nearby where the animals move to drink water, flowers open up to the light, not to forget the beach where we swim and surf before heading back home.
Midday trips are usually perfect to check out Crocodiles and Elephants, and they go for 2 to 3 hours.
Sunset trips usually cover the time of the day where animals move from an area to another. We go to areas where we can spot elephants crossings and other animal activities.
As a part of our commitment to becoming sustainable and eco-friendly, we decided to follow the footsteps of our parents and ancestors by farming our own fruits and vegetables. Guests are welcome to visit our lagoon-side farm (10 mins from Surf n Sun) for a picnic between our peanut, tomatoes, lady fingers, pomegranate, aubergine, guava, papaya, cashew, banana, orange, mango, and coco-nut plants. Our backyard is the lagoon, so guests can grab a kayak with one of our guides to explore mangrove trees, spot elephants, pass by crocodiles, and the usual migrant bird visitors that change depending on the season. Guests are able to camp at our farm to enjoy the sunset, stars, and the moon as well.
Camping for us started as a personal experience we did whenever we went surfing, fishing, exploring with local farmers, or sharing the fruits and vegetables that grow on our farm. After having a few guests on some of our trips, we saw a lot of interest, and we added it as a service to share these special moments and locations with the local community.
Our camping offerings can be combined with Surfing, Sight-seeing, Farming and Safari, depending on our guests and their needs. We make sure that we provide our guests with all needed materials and equipment to be able to enjoy the camping experience. For kids to join our camping activities, they should be above ten years old.
